Stand With Us to Spotlight Stories That Inspire

The Problem: Rising Crime. Rising Costs. Rising Concern.
Barbados is at a crossroads. Families and businesses are feeling the weight of higher living costs and a perceived lack of opportunity. Crime has become a louder part of our national conversation, with reports pointing to more gun-related offences, spikes in robberies, and mounting pressure on small businesses.
These trends affect more than our peace of mind. They threaten investor confidence and the reputation of a tourism-based economy that depends on safety and stability.
Researchers have made it clear: the drivers are complex. Economic strain, community instability, under-education, family breakdown, and the availability of firearms all play a role. Government action is important, but the path forward requires more. It calls for residents, community leaders, and the private sector to step up together.
When You Cannot See a Way Out
For many young people, the challenges are deeply personal. Some grow up in unstable homes. Some leave school without the tools they need to thrive. Faced with limited options, the wrong crowd can seem like the only open door.
No one truly wants to put their life at risk, but desperation makes risky choices feel like shortcuts to survival. This is the harsh reality for too many of our young people—and it’s where we must intervene.
Our Plan: Amplifying Positive Paths
At Let’s Do It Barbados, we believe stories have the power to shift mindsets and inspire change. That’s why we’re launching a new series that shines a light on:
- Everyday champions who beat the odds—people who started with nothing and built a career or business from scratch.
- Good Samaritans who showed courage and kindness when it mattered most.
- Private-sector partners who are investing in youth, through scholarships, mentorships, training, sports, and arts programs.
This series isn’t about putting anyone on a pedestal. It’s about building a library of living proof that positive choices pay off.
What You’ll See
- Mini interview videos capturing turning points and advice for the next generation.
- Documentary photography that puts faces to the stories.
- Short write-ups with takeaways young readers can act on today.
- Spotlights on companies walking the talk with youth-focused initiatives.
Our goal: to inspire, to inform, and to show young Barbadians that there are better paths—and that they are within reach.
Why Focus on Individuals and Companies
Policy shifts matter, but culture shifts are just as powerful. When a teenager sees someone from their community succeed despite the odds, a new possibility opens up. When a company offers paid training or mentorship, an alternative to crime becomes real.
This is how communities change: one decision, one skill, one paycheck, one mentor at a time.
How Companies Can Get Involved
If your organisation supports youth in any of the following ways, we want to hear from you:
- Apprenticeships, internships, or job training
- Scholarships or tuition assistance
- Sports, arts, or digital skills programs
- Mental health support, mentorship, or life-skills coaching
- Second-chance or re-entry opportunities
We’ll highlight effective programs so others can learn and replicate.
